DEN Mission 3: Out of this World Podcast

For our final mission, start by logging in to Discovery Education Science Connection and checking out the Lunar Mission to Mars virtual lab.  Depending on the grade level you can complete the lab with your students or just use bits and pieces of it to start some lively discussions between your students.  Tip: The teacher’s guide is really helpful!

Now, your mission is to create a podcast (3 to 5 minutes in length) using one of the following prompts (and we certainly do encourage creativity:)

1) The U. S. space program plans to return humans to the Moon by the year 2020.  With all the challenges of getting humans to Mars and back again, why go back to the Moon first?

2) Create a Mooncast from the perspective of an astronaut in space.  Sample questions to get you started:
What do you see?
What are some the challenges you face?
What is your favorite part about being in space and on the Moon?

You can create your podcast using whichever program you are most comfortable with (e.g., Audacity, Garage Band, etc.).  If you have never created a podcast or need a refresher course, join us (and bring your students) for a webinar on Thursday, May 17 at 1 pm (EST) to learn how to use the free program, Audacity, to create a podcast.
